Weather and Clothing Tips

An open-air canyon show — wearing the right clothes matters

🌡️ Canyon nights are chilly

The show takes place at night, and the nighttime temperature in the Tianmen Mountain canyon is usually 3—5°C lower than in the city. Even in summer, we recommend bringing a light jacket. In spring and autumn, bring a slightly thicker jacket or windbreaker.

🌧️ What to do if it rains

Light rain does not affect the show; on siteFree raincoats provided, so there's no need to bring your own. In severe weather such as heavy rain or lightning, the show may be temporarily cancelled, in which case a full refund or rescheduling will be arranged.

✅ Show essentials checklist

✓ Original ID document (scan for entry)
✓ Light jacket / windbreaker (canyon is chilly at night)
✓ Drinking water (you may bring your own)
✓ Keep your phone charged (to show your order)
✓ Mosquito repellent (recommended in summer)
✓ Umbrella (as backup; the theater provides raincoats)

Seat Selection Tips

Pick the right seat and double your viewing experience

  • First-time viewers:We recommend Area A (Standard Area), slightly toward the center, which balances the panoramic view and stage details well and offers great value.
  • Attention to detail:We recommend the VIP Area, closer to the stage, where you can see the performers' expressions and costume details clearly.
  • Family outings:Choose seats along the aisles for easier access with children. Area B is more budget-friendly.

Story Synopsis

Know the story, enjoy the show with deeper immersion

🦊 The love legend of Liu Hai and the white fox fairy

Adapted from the traditional Hunan flower-drum opera Liu Hai Chops Wood, Tianmen Fox Fairy: New Liu Hai Chops Wood tells a love story between the woodcutter Liu Hai and a thousand-year-old white fox fairy that transcends the boundary between human and fox. The entire Tianmen Mountain Grand Canyon is the stage — the mountains are the backdrop, the water is the melody, and the lighting turns the canyon into a real mythological world.

The show features over 500 cast and crew and uses the world's largest panoramic FRP stage, naked-eye 3D projection technology, and a surround sound system. With the renowned composer Tan Dun as artistic director, the music blends western Hunan folk song elements with modern symphony, delivering an extremely stunning auditory experience.
